Welcome to
Chelsea Stables
Youth Equestrian Horsemanship Levels 1 and 2
Chelsea Stables offers eight week sessions with lessons twice a week for middle and high school students at two levels:

-
Beginner - a rider with limited experience who is unable to post the trot and does not canter
-
Novice - a rider who can mount and dismount unassisted, is capable of applying basic aids, is comfortable and in control at the walk, moderate length posting trots, and short canters
At this important period of development, working with horses fosters self-confidence, leadership, and prosocial behaviors such as empathy and cooperation. Riders are in partnership with their horses; horse and rider must learn to communicate. The self-confidence that comes from gaining better control is balanced by the humility that there is always more to learn.
Teams are one to three riders with an additional rider as a team leader. Ms. Robb is the primary instructor for both mounted and unmounted work. Students learn about the care, feeding, and anatomy of the horse at both levels in addition to developing riding skills. Sharing and discussing in small groups has proven to be an efffective approach for learning this material.
Team sessions will resume in March 2023.
New sessions form every 4-6 weeks depending on enrollment.
